49 People Killed In New Zealand Mosque Shootings

The Christchurch Muslim community reacts with shock after a mass shooting.

Another day, Another horrific shooting; and this time in Christchurch, New Zealand. On Friday (March 15) many Muslim attended their respective Mosques for Jummah (Friday) prayer, but had their lives taken away by hate.

News broke Friday morning that Forty-nine people were killed in a shooting at two mosques at central Christchurch, New Zealand, in a terrorist attack that appeared to have been carried out by a white nationalist extremist who posted a racist manifesto online and streamed live video of the attacks on Facebook. The attacker targeted the Al Noor Mosque in the center of the city and Linwood Mosque, about three miles away.

The country’s police commissioner, Mike Bush, said at a Friday evening news conference that 41 people had been killed at Al Noor Mosque and seven at Linwood Mosque, and that another victim had died at Christchurch Hospital. A 17-minute video posted to Facebook shows part of the attack, but despite the short video on facebook the identity of the victims and the shooter has been kept anonymous, although some news sources reported that a 28-year-old man from Australia was charged with murder and appeared Saturday morning in a Christchurch courtroom. Court papers identified him as Brenton Harrison Tarrant.It has been stated that he would face additional charges. Many Politicians and public figures sent there condolences to the victims and the muslim community including Former president Barack Obama, Donald and Melania Trump, and 2020 Candidate Beto O’ Rourke.
